CHAPTER 35 MY OWN CRIMINAL RAT

Tatiana’s gown flowed through the crowd as she walked through with confidence giving them what they wanted and what no one else could give anymore; hope that their earthly life could be saved.  Lacking absolute faith that the soul is everlasting they flocked to the charlatan that preached faith in a new religion made up for the purpose of taking the hopeless and giving them worthless hope for her only real love, their money; the soulless leading the souls to their faithless doom. Tatiana enjoyed her power here. It was so easy for them to believe in the unbelievable that she crafted into what she looked at as an art in the understanding over their desperate fear.  This night was her biggest flock yet and it was growing successfully despite the fact that she saved no one. She was the latest hope for the hopeless crowd and becoming the hottest ticket in town.

Life was under control and her power felt more extended by her deal with Skinny Sam. She had once again managed to come out on top in a situation that almost lost control. Rooskie was a good man to have around but his special desires were getting riskier and she couldn’t make it big in this faked religious world with the likes of him by her side. She considered using Skinny Sam when the right time came and when he became more of a risk than a benefit to her. She knew with Johnny there was more money to make and she was soon to make a lot of cash with her deal with Skinny Sam that gave her a percentage of the take from that politician he had in his sights.

“Yes my children release your demons that make you ill and you will be cured” she chanted through the crowd that cooed her.  They reached to touch her gown not wanting to wait their turn for her concerted touch and she felt irritation rise but successfully quelled it. She knew showing this would work against her here.  She thought about how far she had made it from her beginning. From a young and naïve street whore to an expert high end prostitute to now running scams that she didn’t have to take shit from Johns anymore or ever again. She dreamed that Johnny’s dad would save her one time long ago but not for long as she always really knew that was a fantasy since no one ever saved her. She was always on her own.

The cash take was better than ever tonight and she could barely keep her bag of money from flowing over all over her angelic gown. She ended the evening announcing her next event for further healing then escaped before they mowed her down in their despair to be saved now instead of later. She knew how to do a quick exit and appreciated her skills in doing so. It took time to perfect this scam and she felt she was pinnacled now.  For a moment she wondered what life would be like if she got out of the whole thing but quickly erased that thought when she looked down at her bulging white satin bag of easy money; this was the life and these suckers were dead anyway so she made a note of her happiness at its success and raced out the back door. As she exited into the alley she was dismayed to see Rooskie was late. He wasn’t often late but before she got angered the van appeared.
