Johnny
woke up with a sharp pain in his side as he pushed his hand away from the
offending pain he felt it was a foot.
He slowly looked up while he rubbed his eyes from the previous night of
deathly adventure. Rooskie stood in front of him his eyes piercing as if this was
Johnny’s last moment of life. “You
motherfucker!”Rooskie roared “how did you get mixed up with this man!! Do you
get who you met?! Get up you bastard motherfucker piece of shit! We only have
MINUTES!” Johnny understood that his
fate was likely better with Rooskie than the man. Rooskie had secrets he was
close to privy to when with the man he knew with certainty cement shoes came
with the risk of following his plan. He picked himself up and followed Rooskie
as if he was his savior.
The
creep out of the warehouse was the longest creep Johnny ever made in his
life. But he followed Rooskie
through the warehouse with the real knowledge that his life depended on it.
When they finally reached the dark wet crisp of the outside freedom night
Johnny felt his shoulders relax and finally relief. He also briefly lamented
his old life with his father. How easy his old life was and how he yearned to have
it back. He looked down at his
worn shoes and felt anger swell inside him.
Rooskie
ran forward and Johnny ran behind him blindly to the van as soon as he recognized it. As soon as
Johnny got into the van Rooskie slammed the door closed the force echoed in the still night. As Rooskie started the
engine the man’s thugs appeared as if from nowhere in the darkness. Surrounding
the van of Rooskie Johnny crouched down as bullets rained around him peering
now and then at Rooskie’s skill as a marksman as shot by shot Johnny heard his
success as the van catapulted forward.
Soon
only darkness surrounded him and Rooskie’s eyes stayed focused on the road
alone. From the dark and back to the light of Los Angele’s streets the van sped
on until finally it sped into the driveway of Tatiana’s lit house. As they sped
down the driveway he caught a glimpse of Tatiana at the kitchen window and his
heart skipped a beat. This was an unusual feeling for Johnny. He had never felt
this before and he did not know what he should do with it or what it meant but he took pleasure in it and his fear and anger left for a moment.
