The sun came up and pierced Johnny’s eyes through the tree
leaves and waking him. He rubbed his eyes groggy and confused as to where he
was. He then recalled his prior day and looked anxiously outward to see if the
van was in the driveway and saw that it was not. He stood up slowly trying to keep cover behind the tree
trunk trying to assess whether anyone was in the house. The house was quiet and the white lace
window curtains fluttered in the slight morning breeze giving him glimpses into
the house but he saw no one.
He began walking closer stepping lighting making sure not to
make a sound just in case someone was in the house he wanted to make sure he
realized it first and before they did. As he stepped closer to the house he
suddenly heard the van’s engine roaring up the driveway. He ran back to behind
the tree and got down to hide himself but positioned himself so he was still
able to see what was going on. The van came to a screeching halt in the
driveway and Rooskie jumped out his face sweaty and stressed as he looked all
around to see if there was anyone looking at him. As his eyes passed the tree
where Johnny was hidden Johnny held his breath though he was far enough away
that Rooksie could not hear him breathing. Rooskie looked on and didn’t notice
him and Johnny breathed slowly his sigh of relief. Rooskie had a wild look on
his face and Johnny had no intention to confront him. He saw no sign of
Tatiana.
Rooskie went to the back of the van and opened the van doors
wide as if revealing something grand. He struggled and grunted until
finally he withdrew a trunk of the same type and kind he already had in his
room with abundance. Johnny sat watching and wondering whether he might be able
to find something out on Rooskie that would benefit him by convincing Tatiana
he needed to be eliminated from their trio. Rooskie lowered the trunk out and
his veins bulged in his arms from the weight. The trunk slipped out of his arms
and crashed to the floor. It did not open.
When it hit the floor Rooskie jumped out of its way as if it
hit his feet he would surely be injured severely. He began pushing and
struggling with it to get it into the house and pushed it up the small set of
concrete stairs and into the kitchen and disappeared.
Johnny waited and listened
only impeded by the slight rush of trees blowing through the wind of the
morning. He decided that Rooskie had gone to his room with the trunk and his
curiosity and will to get rid of Rooskie pushed him forward to look into his
window and discover finally the secret of the trunks. As he went slowly towards
the window he knew that if Rooskie saw him he would surely be dead. His pulse
raced and his face flushed as he continued his shadowy walk towards the window
that looked into Rooskie’s room.
